Oyako donburi: Chicken & Egg over rice
Sushi: Not a fancy sushi, but something simple that can be made even on a weeknight. - *This video features also how to cut the sashimi.
For the sushi, instead of rolling or making nigiri, the sushi rice is served on a bowl/platter along with on the side some nori squares, sashimi or takuwan or whatever is to serve on the sushi rice. Individuals can grab the nori, some sushi rice & their topping of choice. It’s easy to serve this way & just as tasty.

Oshogatsu Recipes (Ozoni and Nishime)
Ozoni Soup by Tami Kelvans and Nishime by Bob Adachi
Nishime: For the New Year’s feast, Japanese people often serve Simmered Vegetables called Nishime. Various vegetables are cooked in a slightly sweet soy-based light broth.
Ozoni Soup: Ozoni is a special soup that we eat in the morning on New Year’s Day in Japan. It usually includes mochi (rice cake) and the preparation varies both by household and region. Tami will demonstrate the Tokyo version.

Kyoto Style Sukiyaki, Spinach dish and Cooking Fish with Shio Koji
Bob Adachi will demonstrate how to cook sukiyaki the Kyoto style as well as Japanese Spinach side dish.
Lois Oda will demonstrate how to cook fish with Shio Koji. Shio koji is a simple and versatile cure/marinade for poultry, meat, seafood, and even vegetables that imparts savory and subtle sweet notes to foods, while also tenderizing them thanks to enzymes that break down both proteins and starches.
